Our Identity in Christ

Updated: May 29

Have you ever thought about just how fantastic you are? How wonderful? How awesome and inspiring?

You are uniquely made. There is no other like you. About a month ago, Kris Vallotton stated something in a way that just: 🤯.

When He calls us a new creation, it means there was nothing like it in existence until YOU. It's new. There's no prototype, copy or replication of who you are and what you carry. It's literally never been seen before! 🤯🤯🤯

This points us to our identity in Christ. Who does God say I am? How does He see me? What special ways am I known by Him? Who is He to me?

We as believers must understand that knowing our identity is key. When we know our identity, we are able to understand the authority and power He's given us. Not by anything we've done, but by His death on the cross and His resurrection after. Jesus tore the veil so we could know Abba face to face.

For many years, I didn't truly understand my identity. I didn't know who I was. I was lost in the mud of the past - past seasons, past hurts, past "these were the best moments of my life".

In retrospect, I am thankful that the best moments aren't in my past. They're NOW and in the future because He has made me new. Every day is an opportunity for the more, the greater things of God.

Being stuck on the past means being stuck on your old identity. If we truly believed that we are who He says we are, the battles waged in minds would end swiftly and victoriously. If the enemy can cause even one iota of a doubt in our identity, then there's a crack in our foundation.

Please hear me when I say I'm speaking to myself on this just as much as I'm speaking to you. There's no condemnation in Christ Jesus. There's no shame, guilt or fear. He loves us and wants the best for us. He wants us to be free, able to walk in the fullness of our identity as a son and daughter of the Most High King.

What our own measure and standard of "best" looks like is incomparable to all that He has for us. He doesn't see our weakness, our moments of hesitation and battles of doubt and self-loathing.

No! He sees us as perfect in Him. He sees us as mighty. He sees us through a heavenly lense that we only get minute glimpses of until we're face to face. He sees His beautiful, marvelous, wonderful and oh so loved creations. I see Him standing with His arms wide open, running to each one of us, wrapping us in a bear hug.

His Presence is warm, soothing, peaceful and free. You can finally take a breath. You don't have to hide who you are anymore.

I hear Him saying that it's time to come out of the darkness and into His beautiful, wonderful, fiery presence of His love. He wants to pour that love all over His sons and daughters.

He will never leave you. He will never forsake you. There's no thing and no one that can separate you from the love of our Abba.

I invite you to sit in that presence of love. Ask Him who you are to Him. How does He see you? What does He see? What is He saying and speaking over you?

When we get into the secret place and ask Him those questions, we're prophesying over ourselves. We're encouraging, strengthening and comforting ourselves. David did it in the Psalms. We're commanded to do so as well.

If you've been working on processing one of your words, I want you to go back. Look and see through His eyes on what that word is calling out of you. You just might be surprised to see that there's way more to you than you ever thought, thinked or imagined.

Comment below if you do the following exercise, or put it in our FB Community Group:

Look through one of your prophetic words. If it's on the shorter side, pick 2 other shorter words to process those together.

Look for your identity. Who does He say you are? Highlight what you find in blue (or some other way to show the different elements as we go in).

Once you've highlighted all that you've found, create a bullet list of what you've found. If you need help on phrasing or rephrasing, just pop that question in the comments below.

Now that you've gathered that list, you're going to use those points to create an identity statement: Who does He say you are?

This becomes just one part of your heavenly identity statement. The more that you process your words, sit with Him in the secret place, and just enjoy His soothing presence, the more His love will pour out in you, through you and over you. Below is an example of one of my identity statements created from one of my words.

Have fun with it! You're going to be blown away when you see you as He sees you!

In Him alone,

Alex Flint
